Michelle DeShazo

Michele has experience in a wide variety of litigation matters, including environmental law, oil-and-gas litigation, product and premise liability claims, hearing loss, commercial litigation, Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) litigation, and general civil litigation. She focuses on efficiently and effectively managing complex multi-party litigation to achieve positive outcomes, whether it is through early case resolution or at trial.

Michele has routinely published articles and presented on numerous topics, including environmental law, Louisiana prescription law, Medicare reporting, settlement issues, and diversity.

EXPERIENCE

In 2016, in a radiation-exposure case, Michele co-tried a peremptory exception of prescription (i.e., a motion to dismiss on grounds that the plaintiffs’ claims were time-barred), which had been filed by several major oil companies, including her client. The exception was granted by the district court, and its ruling was affirmed by Louisiana’s Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal following Michele’s oral argument in defense of the decision. See Lennie v. Exxon Mobil Corp., 17-204 (La. App. 5 Cir. 6/27/18); 251 So.3d 637.
